unnamedBefore I write any song with another songwriter, I try to spend a full hour alone in the Word, reading one of my favorite devotionals, asking God for some direction as to what we should write about during our four hour window.  It’s incredibly cool to see how often the concept that is laid on my heart is the same concept share with the other person.  Not always the case, but fun when it happens that way.

By April 21st, I was pretty sure I had all the songs for the new album.  I’d written 35 at that point and certainly had my top favorites.  But I had a writing session scheduled with Kyle Lee and I really enjoyed writing with him previously so I thought, “what harm could come of writing again?”   I remember receiving a text from my manager, Jeff, during my prep time that day as I was sitting (here) in my back yard by my unlit fire pit, while the rising springtime sun warmed my face. I told him how excited I was because I knew what we were going to write about that day!  I had turned to The Book of Revelation, but a gentle breeze took me one page back to Jude…

AS_lyric27I glanced at the passage I had underlined about Michael the Archangel, then I noticed, in the bottom corner, another underlined verse, “Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, to Him who is able to present you faultless before His presence with exceeding great joy, to the only God our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion and authority before all time and now and forever. Amen.”  That was it!  We were writing Jude’s Doxology!

AS_lyric28Lo and behold, it ended up being the album’s first single! SiriusXM The Message just added it to their playlist August 23rd, exactly 10 years to the day that my first album Anything Worth Saying was released!

It perfectly summarizes the theme and celebrative feel of the album, gathered around His Throne, we lift our eternal praises to the King of kings and Lord of lords, Jesus Christ: the only God our Savior!
