I’ll never forget seeing the Sea of Galilee for the first time. Driving east from Mount Carmel, through Nazareth and Cana and finally cresting the hill that revealed the stunningly glorious view of the Lake below, with the hills beyond ablaze from the golden sunset behind us. This was the very water on which Jesus walked! This was the very location where He calmed storms and made great catches of fish appear from seemingly nowhere! The command of His spoken word has power over nature. It obeys because He Himself is the Author of all creation! It’s easy therefore to marvel with the psalmist when he wonders, “What is man that You are mindful of him?” That the all-powerful God of Creation watches over us individually is almost too wonderful to comprehend. But no less true. Our God loves us with an everlasting love.
Yet consider the accounts of Moses, Isaiah, Job, Ezekiel, Saul of Tarsus or John on Patmos when they encountered God in all His majestic glory. They cowered in the total OTHERNESS of God’s presence. Each time, God comforts them and assures them they are welcome. But the initial reaction is consistent: finding yourself in the presence of God is terrifying. There is truly no one like Him in all creation!
On the night before this majestic, all-powerful God gave His life to save our sinful lives, He prayed for us. He prayed for our unity. That we would be completely one with each other. Together and unified so that the world would believe the love that God has for us.
The majestic, all-powerful King of the Universe knows us, loves us, and desires peace and unity among us. Together, regardless of creed, denomination, income, age or ethnicity, let’s proclaim the to the world the power of His Name.
